Die Workcamps in Portugal werden zentral vom portugiesischen Ministerium für Jugend und Sport IPDJ (Instituto Português do Desporto e Juventude) finanziert und vermittelt, aber von verschiedenen Initiativen vor Ort organisiert (z.B. aus dem Bereich Jugendarbeit, ökologische Initiativen, etc.). Die finanziellen Schwierigkeiten der letzten Jahre sind so weit überwunden, dass die Workcamps wieder ohne Extra Fee stattfinden können.
Es gibt eine strikte Altersgrenze von 30 Jahren für die Teilnehmenden!

Portugal PT-LI-21-17 “Take care of your neighborhood, take care of yourself!” 01.07.-12.07.2017 SOCI/CULT 17vols
PROJECT: AJUDE association has a project in a social zone of Carnaxide which work is focused on the monitoring of young people in unemployment situation and of children and young people of the neighborhood.
Due to the apparent state of abandonment that seems to exist in terms of cleaning and care of common spaces, this camp aims to promote citizenship activities and environmental respect, awareness actions for care and cleanliness of the neighborhoods as well as promoters of the development of their interest in sharing the rules of the society in which they live and full integration in society.
WORK: To this end, the activities of the camp will include cleaning the neighborhood, workshops on the recycling and reuse of materials, a theatre workshop on the subject and with recycled materials, recreational activities, intercultural activities, cultural activities among other activities. We intend to provide a different experience making the difference in different culture and intercultural learning among local people.
ACCOMMODATION: Lodgement will be in a youth hostel. Meals will be prepared by all the volunteers, taking turns. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and night snacks will be provided.
LOCATION: The camp will be located approximately 10km from Lisbon and near the beach. In their leisure time, volunteers can visit our beach’s, to Lisboa and Cascais, go to traditional party, night game, gastronomic show and workshop,and also to a musical night.

PROJECT: Autonomia e Descoberta, CRL actively promotes Volunteering, Youth Mobility and the Culture of Peace as tools to transform society and as real opportunities to develop key competences. At international level, the A&D edits publications, organizes events and acts as a coordinating, hosting and sending organization for trans-national voluntary service projects. Certain aims are to provide young people with skills to be acquired through innovative practices and to be employed at work and the spirit of initiative. Further, we want to achieve young people with fewer opportunities with resources to be competent and successful in their work and develop their entrepreneurial spirit. There will be provided and stimulated a direct contact with the different aspects of Portuguese culture through a program of visits by the region and the experience of customs as well as customs of national daily life such as gastronomy, nightlife, the beach trips so common of the young Portuguese in summer period.
WORK: The work to be done is painting, carpentry cleaning and maintenance. All participants will have individual protection and safety equipment and will be monitored and guided by expert technicians.
ACCOMMODATION: Participants will be accommodated in double tents (taking into account their gender) at the municipal camping site in the city of Beja. It has: -Wash clothes, Dishwasher, Access to the municipal swimming pool with 50% discount, Power outlets, Sockets for caravans and tents. There will be served breakfast, lunch and dinner (will be taken into account food restrictions since previously informed) - Served in the restaurant except a barbecue for the community.
LOCATION: The workcamp is located in Beja, an interior city in the south of Portugal characterized by be friendly and nice to visitors. It is in the heart of Alentejo. It will be provided to the participant historical visits, trip to the Vicentina coast, theatre, concerts, contact with local and regional culture and adventure.

Portugal PT-BR-24-17 Famalicão Makeover Volunteer Spot 03.07.-14.07.2017 RENO/CONS 15vols
PROJECT: "Famalicão Makeover Volunteer Spot" is a work camp for youngsters with motivation to perform and contribute to create a volunteers spot in our city - a space that youngsters will use for free in order to develop competences, generate new ideas and projects, share knowledge and experiences with other youngsters.
WORK: Being part of this work camp the youngsters will have the chance to participate in tasks like indoor and outdoor paintings, finishes carpentry, furniture refurbishment and construction of storage facilities through the re-use of pallets; decoration of the space with reused materials and gardening.
ACCOMMODATION: Breakfast will be provided at the accommodation (school) by the monitors and a rotating team among the participants. Since the work starts early (to avoid the hours of greatest heat), we intend to serve a snack midmorning to gain energy and delay lunchtime. The journey is continuous and at lunch, the food will be delivered by a catering restaurant at school by 14pm. During the afternoon, the association will provide snacks. Dinner will be served at the accommodation at 8 pm (a warm meal to prepare for a comforting evening).
LOCATION: The workcamp will take place in Vila Nova de Famalicão. The participants will have the opportunity to join free time activities like swimming pool, cinema or go to the beach. They will take part in workshops of stencil, didgeridoo and participatory video and will have the chance to visit and get to know Vila nova de Famalicão, Oporto and Vila do Conde cities.

Portugal PT-FA-05-17 Recreates Natural Leisure Spaces 03.07.-14.07.2017 ENVI/RENO/CONS 15vols
PROJECT: The aims of the camp is to transform 2 vacant spaces into pleasant community leisure spaces, involving young people from different cultures and to rehabilitate the community space of the former Public Source, in the village of Cortes, as a way to keep alive a space that was once used by the entire population of the village and its surroundings. Further, they will create a picnic area (non-existent in the village), through the rehabilitation of a green space in a state of abandonment.
WORK: The 15 young people who choose this CTI will be divided into two work groups, 8 young people for the “Aldeia das Cortes” and 7 young people in a space in the centre of the village, where it will realize the “Park of Picnic”. Placing of the Traditional Sidewalk, delimit the space through the construction of a wall in stone, construction of a ramp and steps, paining a well of water, place a porch and setting up a picnic table, paper baskets and signs are main tasks in this workcamp.
All tasks will be developed according to the current health and safety standards in place and will be accompanied by two professionals who are knowledgeable about the actions, highlighted by the Junta de Freguesia de S. B. Messines (County Council). These professionals will instruct the young people of the tasks step by step and in the beginning of each new task there will always be an explanation and demonstration of how tasks should be performed and what health and safety measures need to apply. The activities of animation in the Community Centre consist of Energizer/ Icebreakers, sports and cultural activities (traditional games and football), tourist knowledge activities (visit the town of São Bartolomeu de Messines, the town of Silves (incluiding the Castle and the Museum), the towns of Armação de Pêra, Alte, Albufeira and Tavira and Fieldwork activities.
ACCOMMODATION: The young people will stay in our community centre as we have rooms with single beds. Regards to the food during the week they can use our canteen and at the weekends they have the responsibility to cook themselves. The young people will have 4 meals (breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner). The young people will have access to free Wi-Fi.
LOCATION: The workcamp is located in Casa do Povo de São Bartolomeu de Messines and its beautiful nature surrounding. Leisure activities can be trips to the beach, the swimming pools, waterpark and zoo. It is perfect for walking and hiking.

PROJECT: The project’s aims are to raise awareness among the participants and the population on social inclusion, mainly concerning handicapped young people as well as to raise awareness also about fair trade, organic farms and environment preservation.
WORK: Work consist on group dynamics, presentation to the city and region, discussion on the workcamp theme (objectives, tasks division), visits to the most important places of the city, training on theatre performance and workshop on how to deal with the difference. Also direct contact and work with local NGO (Cercimarante) responsible for activities with local handicapped young people are included. Volunteers will organize an event (theatre performance) involving both groups (workcamp participants and local handicapped young people) to be presented to the local community (street performance – expected more than 500 persons to attend).
ACCOMMODATION: Participants will be accommodated in shared rooms (4 participants each) of Casa da Juventude de Amarante (even so participants should all bring sleeping bag). Casa da Juventude de Amarante has its own kitchen, toilets and showers. In terms of food, our youth centre has a bar\restaurant proposal for the volunteers (breakfast, lunch and dinner) always taking into consideration our aims (healthy food with organic and vegetarian ingredients). Laundry is available (self-service).
LOCATION: Amarante is a small town in the North of Portugal, part of Porto district (60km far from Porto, to the interior) with 12 thousand inhabitants (in the city center). It is a quite famous city for tourism, culture and wine production. Indeed is quite near (18km) the Oporto wine region. Is crossed by Tâmega River (one of the rivers ending at Douro River that crosses Porto till the Atlantic ocean) and it is on the valley of one of the most important Portuguese mountains, Marão (1450m). Amarante is well located (nearby passes highway A4 connecting to Oporto and highway A11 connecting to Guimarães) and has a good public transport system (bus station). In leisure time, visits to some of the main cities and spots in the North of Portugal (Guimarães, Porto, Parque Natural do Alvão) are guaranteed.

PROJECT: The main aim of the camp is to take conscience of the importance of volunteering and cooperative work in the conservation of nature. The camp seeks the habitat restoration of a creek and a public cycling and walking way through the control of invasive flora and work in a native plant nursery.
WORK: The activities will include all the regular activities of a native plants nursery, from seed collecting and cleaning, compost making, seed potting and seedling re-potting. We will also expand the plant production area with soil cover. Our program includes also habitat restoration with the control of invasive species that threaten local biodiversity, by cutting and other non-chemical eco-friendly methods, and introduction of information/ sensibilization signals on the cycling way
ACCOMMODATION: Accommodation will be in joint bedrooms (4 person), in the facilities of the youth centre being similar to a hostel. Breakfast and afternoon tea will be provided on the basis of regular products (e.g. milk, bread, tea, fruit etc.) Hot meals will be served on school facilities at lunch and dinner. Just inform us, if you are vegetarian. Possibility for vegetarian dishes will be available.
LOCATION: The workcamp will take place in Montemor-o-Novo. It is situated 80km far southern from Lisbon and near to the nature area Serra de Monfurado.
Leisure activities will include an artistic activity of clay pot making in partnership with a local cultural organization, as well as pedestrian walking flora and fauna observation activities. We will also have a mushroom production workshop. Some other cultural activities as debates and free air cinema will also be organized.

PROJECT: INOVTERRA is working in Douro-Varosa Route that passes through Douro and Varosa Valley by walk. The recuperation and requalification (interior) of the Chapel of Santo André, one of the historical buildings of the route, has been carried out by volunteers throughout this year, with the main objective of safeguarding, promoting and divulging the historical heritage with its inclusion and use in the Douro-Varosa Route. We pretend to provide a different experience to young people as it gives them the opportunity to know new sources of development, a new culture and a practical work while getting to know the history of Portugal and its interior. With recreational and cultural exchanges with local habitants, there will be provided intercultural learning, foster cultural enrichment through visits in the region and develop leisure and environmental improvement activities.
WORK: The camp "Historic Douro-Varosa Trail" intends to continue the process of restoration and re-qualification (exterior) of the Chapel through the painting of the building and cleaning of the surrounding space to create support structures, rest and leisure, do the maintenance and cleaning of Cistercian monuments where the Route passes and cleaning, marking and placement of informative signs along the Route.
ACCOMMODATION: Basic housing with electricity, hot water, shower, WC, kitchen and bedroom (equipped with bunk beds). Lodgment can be in the bedroom or in a specific place around the building. Meals will be prepared by all the volunteers, taking turns. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and night snacks will be provided.
LOCATION: The camp will be located approximately 5km of Lamego and near Douro region. Várzea de Abrunhais beside Vila Pouca de Salzedas and next to Varosa river is well known as a rural village of great natural beauty. Leisure activities can be traditional party, night game, gastronomic show and workshop, musical night, stars observation, etc.

Portugal PT-CB-11-17 Archaeological Camp of Proença-a-Nova 01.08.-12.08.2017 ENVI/ARCH 17vols
PROJECT: The Archaeological International Field Camp will take place in a large walled site whose topographic location and construction techniques used in its walls suggests a date from the beginning of the first millennium BC (Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age). It could be interpreted as a temporary refuge settlement or a “deceit site”, associated with a period of regional instability and conflict following the establishment of the Phoenician colonies in the coast of the Iberian Peninsula. However, other interpretations are still viable and we intend to continue the investigation initiated in 2015.
WORK: Your activities will include archaeological excavation by using a range of digging equipment; learn how to record sites using drawings, detailed notes and photography and other fieldwork (3D recording, geophysical and archaeological surveying).
Participants will be able to be a part of the archaeological team that makes this site available for future generations through his record, interpretation and study.
ACCOMMODATION: At the Seminário do Preciosíssimo Sangue (catholic organization place run by missionary priests – photo 1) in the village of Proença-a-Nova with individualized sleeping spaces divided by gender. There will be provided breakfast at the accommodation but lunch and dinner in a restaurant in the village. Eventually some meals may take place in the field or during the visits, but there is no need to cook.
LOCATION: The workcap is situated in Recinto Muralhado de Chão de Galego (Montes da Senhora), Proença-a-Nova. The study trips in the region and lectures will include the visit to other field camps (Cabeço da Anta and Cerca do Castelo) and learning more on archaeological studies; sightseeing in Proença-a-Nova and his traditions of natural (Almourão valley, vulture watching, swimming inland river beaches), cultural (museums and Centre of Living Sciences) and gastronomy (“maranho” and “tigelada”) importance.

PROJECT: Even though the São João das Arribas Hillfort was declared National Monument in 1910, little is known about its occupation – oral tradition and some superficial findings point to the presence of Iron Age peoples and the Roman Empire, but they are far from ensuring a scientific take. Thus, for the second time, Palombar joins forces with Mónica Salgado, director of the excavation, to make an archaeological survey on site.
WORK: Work-wise, volunteers will perform the following tasks: clearing the excavation area, archaeological survey on the area surrounding the São João das Arribas Hillfort, excavation, earth removal and gathering of archaeological remains, washing of archaeological remains, introduction and awareness-raising to the notion of archaeological remains. Throughout the whole workcamp, informal educational activities will be developed as well as activities that shall bring volunteers and local community together.
ACCOMMODATION: Volunteers will be split between indoor (bedroom equipped with bunk beds) and outdoor (spacious tents) accommodation. All other facilities will be made available to them: electricity, hot water, shower, WC, kitchen and dining room.
Meals will be prepared by all the volunteers, taking turns, yet always accompanied by a cook. Breakfast, lunch, afternoon snacks, dinner, and night snacks will be provided.
LOCATION: The workcamp will take place in Antiga Escola Primária de Aldeia Nova, in the municipality of Miranda do Douro. They will be a unique chance to get to know the region by: visiting the Miranda Donkey Breed Centre, in Atenor, visiting the Centro de Interpretação dos Pombais Tradicionais (CIPT). In Uva, you can go hiking and birdwatching, go visiting Fraga do Puio and the Terra Mater ecomuseum and the Miranda do Douro and its Terra de Miranda Museum among others.

PROJECT: Activar – Associação de Cooperação da Lousã - is an association that aims to promote the local development of the county of Lousã in an integrated and sustainable way and in cooperation with other entities, in a perspective of improving the quality of life of the population. The volunteers will work in and around Talasnal village while they promote intercultural relations between young participants and the local community, ensure the safety conditions of the walkers that walk in the rails of the Lousã mountain range, improve the conditions for cultural and ethnographic activities in Talasnal village and make known the work done in the community.
WORK: Main task will be to clean the Talasnal water and water mill, to clean the pedestrian routes "In the route of the mills and" Route of the villages of the shanty of Lousã "(that connect Lousã to the Talasnal). Other tasks are included like building communal kiln in Talasnal village primary school, the wooden furniture (benches and tables) to support Talasnal school. The participants will work 6 hours per day in paths of mountain to support bulding a community oven in village of Talasnal.
ACCOMMODATION: The participants will be lodged in a house with good access to the town of Lousã. Lunches on working days will be made at the farm where they are working and the remaining meals will be in the house where they will be lodged. The participants will have access to the internet in the facilities of the promoter entity and in several public places of the town where this service already exists.
LOCATION: The workcamp is located in Lousã, a town situated 30 km from the city of Coimbra. In leisure time, the group will have the opportunity to know Coimbra and the old University, the river beaches in Lousã and at the evenings, you can participate in some cultural activities with the local community.

PROJECT: Aims of the workcamp are to raise awareness among the participants and the population on organic farms, organic food and fair trade as well as to develop skills related to agriculture work in organic farms and environment preservation. You will run activities in order to increase the level of commitment at local level (Amarante) for organic and fair trade products.
WORK: The camp includes working in organic farms from the region of Amarante and training on fair trade and sustainable development (ex.: workshop about Fair Trade and healthy food). Presentation to the city and region, group dynamics, visit to the most important places of the city, visits to some of the main cities and spots in the North of Portugal (Guimarães, Porto, Parque Natural do Alvão) are included.
