Die Workcamps in den Niederlanden werden von SIW Internationale Vrjwilligersprojekten (SIW), einer nicht-staatlichen und gemeinnützigen Organisation für Freiwilligendienste ausgerichtet, die 1953 gegründet wurde. In den Niederlanden zählt SIW zu den größten Organisationen, die internationale Jugendprojekte veranstalten. Die Aktivitäten von SIW werden in großem Maße von Freiwilligen organisiert.

In allen Projekten von SIW ist die Einnahme von Drogen jeglicher Art von vornherein verboten!

Naturerlebnis mit Menschen mit geistiger Behinderung

Bedum has a rich history with father Walfridus and the church named after him. Today it is a modern village with traces of its history. The province of Groningen has cultural heritages both in the capital city and outside, like national park ‘Lauwersmeer’. The province borders World Heritage Site the Wadden Sea. Our partner’s Heeren Loo is one of the largest care organizations in the Netherlands for mentally disabled people. Their vision is to give a high quality support to a meaningful existence for people with mental limitations and they strive to let them participate in society.
WORK: The participants will help the health care institution through activities like working in the garden, maintenance and restoration work and painting a shed. Next to that, volunteers will help people who have a mental disability and organise activities. The volunteers will help out at the organization of a large summer party that takes place on June 16th.
ACCOMMODATION: Volunteers are expected to bring their own tents. The volunteers will stay at a campsite, just outside of the village of Bedum. On weekdays, warm meals will be provided by co-workers of the health care institution. The group will cook for themselves in the weekends.
LOCATION: The project takes place in Bedum, a small village 10 kilometres north of Groningen. The hosting organization is excited to welcome the volunteers at their centre and will organize some leisure activities. Together with the camp leaders the volunteers will further discuss the recreational program. For example they can explore the beautiful city of Groningen (by bike), explore the environmental area, and visit the ‘Groninger museum’, go ‘mud walking’ on the Wadden Sea or other places in the Netherlands. The camp leaders will have some ideas, but of course it is possible for the volunteers to put forward their own ideas for this program! Leisure time will also be spent on the theme: PeaceWorks!
REQUIREMENT:

Werde Teil des Urban House Festivals!

The festival takes place in Lewenborg, one of the outskirts of the city of Groningen. Groningen has almost 200.000 inhabitants with an average age of 36,4 years. It’s the youngest city of the Netherlands, largely due to the 50.000 students studying in Groningen. The partner is Urban House, who organizes the festival for the 10th time. Urban House aims to give ‘urban’ culture a position in the cultural field and promote cultural diversity. In their vision, ‘urban’ involves all expressions of street culture like: graffiti, street art, sports like panna, skate and basketball, music like hip-hop, reggae/dance-hall, reggae ton and R&B and dance styles like street dance, break-dance and bubbling. The average age of the festival visitors is young (18-20).
WORK: The participants will help out together with local volunteers at the New Attraction festival; they will promote the festival at schools in the province together with national artists, they will provide catering and volunteers will assist in various activities during the one-day festival at the 7th of July. After the festival, they will be clearing the space. Afterwards the volunteers will enjoy their last days exploring the province and some other parts of the Netherlands.
ACCOMMODATION: Volunteers will be staying in a scouting building at walking distance from the festival. Here the volunteers will shower, cook, eat and sleep. Members of the scouting are helping at the festival for several years now and activities with them can also be organized.
LOCATION: Groningen, Groningen.
Most of the free time is after the festival, which will at least take until Monday the 9th of July and maybe up until Tuesday the 10th. The hosting festival organization is enthusiastic about hosting the volunteers and will organize several activities in or around the city of Groningen. Together with the camp leaders the volunteers will further discuss the recreational program. For example they can explore the beautiful city of Groningen (by bike), explore the environmental area, visit the ‘Groninger museum’, go ‘mud walking’ on the Wadden Sea or other places in the Netherland. The camp leaders will have some ideas, but of course it is possible for the volunteers to put forward their own ideas for this program! Leisure time will also be spent on the theme: PeaceWorks!

Unterstützung im Emmaus Projekt in Utrecht

Our partner, Emmaus Parkwijk is a live/work community for would-be homeless people and others who strongly feel related to Emmaus ideology. All the people who are living at the Emmaus work at the second hand store which also includes recycling. Volunteers will not only work, but also live together with the inhabitants of Emmaus Parkwijk. Living together also means preparing and eating the meals together and do some cleaning and light house work. It also means that volunteers are expected to live by the rules of Emmaus Parkwijk. Following the Emmaus philosophy and considering the background of some of the Emmaus residents, use of alcohol is prohibited during working days.
WORK: This project is in cooperation with Emmaus Parkwijk where the volunteers will live and work together with the residents of Emmaus. The volunteers will help out at the second hand store which includes for example picking up second hand goods, sorting them and placing them in the shop. Free days will be on Sunday and Monday (work week is from Tuesday until Saturday).
ACCOMMODATION: Volunteers will sleep in tents in the garden of Emmaus. They have to bring their own tents, sleeping bags and mattresses to the project. They will cook and eat together with the residents of Emmaus.
LOCATION: Utrecht.
Together with the camp leaders the volunteers will discuss the recreational program. For example they can explore the beautiful historical city centre of Utrecht by bike, climb the Dom tower, go canoeing on the canals, visit a museum or other places in the Netherland. The camp leaders will have some ideas, but of course it is possible for the volunteers to put forward their own ideas for this program! Leisure time will also be spent on the theme: PeaceWorks!

Gedenkstättenarbeit in Loenen

The project will take place in Loenen, a small village near the city of Apeldoorn in the province of Gelderland. The volunteers will work at the Field of Honour in Loenen, a war cemetery where around 3600 Dutch war victims (among others soldiers, political prisoners and resistant fighters) are buried. The aim of our partner, the Netherlands War Graves Foundation, is to organize and see to the continuous upkeep of the graves of Dutch war victims, as well as the commemoration of those with no known grave. Since 1956 the Foundation also maintains more than 8.000 allied war graves situated all over the Netherlands.
WORK: The maintenance work will be carried out at the Field of Honour. The work activities will include, among others, maintenance of the field (pruning and cutting), raising of headstones and maintenance of trails. In addition, various excursions will be organized to learn more about the work of the War Graves Foundation.
ACCOMMODATION: Volunteers will be staying in a scouting building near Loenen, where the project takes place. Participants need to bring their own sleeping bags and mattresses. The volunteers can make use of the kitchen and sanitary facilities in the scouting building. The group will cook together for themselves.
LOCATION: Loenen, Gelderland.
Together with the camp leaders the volunteers will further discuss the recreational program. For example they can explore the city of Apeldoorn by bike, visit a museum or other places in the Netherlands. Erhalte den Groote Peel National Park

National Park ‘de Groote Peel’ is the setting of this project. The Groote Peel National Park is a headland where formerly peat was cut. Today it is a bird-rich area, ideally suited for walkers to enjoy their natural surroundings. The park is 1400 ha in size. It is not bisected by highways, power lines or other unsightly infrastructure, something one seldom sees in the Netherlands. De Groote Peel National Park is on the border of the provinces of Limburg and North Brabant. The partner is the Dutch State Forestry, commissioned by the Dutch government to manage a large part of the nature reserves in the Netherlands. Working towards a sustainable living environment for man, plant and animal is central to their mission. It is a social organization, working for and on behalf of society, cooperating actively with Dutch citizens and the organisations and institutions that represent them.
WORK: The participants will play an important role in the preservation of the flora and fauna of the area. Together with the state forest rangers participants will do different activities such as cutting forestry and bushes and various repair and maintenance activities, for example on small bridges.
ACCOMMODATION: The volunteers will stay at a local scouting building. They have to bring their own mattresses and sleeping bags. The group will cook for themselves in the accommodation provided and can make use of the sanitary facilities in the building. Volunteers will not make use of bicycles during this project, as minibuses will be used to travel from work area to the accommodation.
LOCATION: Nederweert, Limburg.
Together with your camp leaders volunteers will discuss the recreational program. For example they can further explore the National Park, go swimming, visit a museum or other places in the Netherlands, such as Eindhoven and Venlo, cities nearby. The camp leaders will have some ideas, but of course it is possible for the volunteers to put forward their own ideas for this program! Leisure time will also be spent on the theme: PeaceWorks!

Erlebe Stadt und Natur Groningens

The project takes place in the city of Groningen, a city in the north of the Netherlands with almost 200.000 inhabitants. With 90 hectares, the City Park is the largest park in north of the Netherlands and is considered one of the most beautiful places in Groningen. It serves different recreational purposes, with sport fields, small lakes, a horse race-track, a children’s farm, an English shaped landscape and the rare collection of trees in the arboretum. The partner ‘Landschapsbeheer Groningen’ conserves small natural areas and cultural elements in the province of Groningen. Through education, they also stimulate individuals and organizations to make a contribution to local nature.
WORK: The participants will help to maintain and clean the nature in the city park in Groningen. They will participate in activities like cutting, mowing and cleaning the area. This project is in cooperation with the city government and aims at ‘green participation’.
ACCOMMODATION: Volunteers are expected to bring their own tents and will stay at a campsite at the City Park. The group will cook, eat, sleep and shower at this campsite, which only has basic facilities. The volunteers will cook for themselves, cooking facilities are available at the camp site.
LOCATION: Groningen, Groningen.

For example the volunteers can explore the city of Groningen where the project is located, they can further explore the city area by bike, visit a museum or other places in the Netherlands. Volunteers can also visit one of the Dutch Wadden Sea Islands. The camp leaders will have some ideas, but of course it is possible for the volunteers to put forward their own ideas for this program! Leisure time will also be spent on the theme: PeaceWorks!

Tauche ab in Hollands Geschichte

This project will take place at country estate the Haere, in the Eastern part of the Netherlands. Castle the Haere, built in 1559, is where our partner, the IJssellandschap foundation is housed. On this beautiful estate one can find a beautiful garden, but also the bunkers of the Ijssel line of defence, which makes this a very interesting location.
WORK: During this project the volunteers will do different types of work. Firstly, they will excavate two bunkers that are part of the former secret line of defensive works along the Ijssel river that was built after World War II to protect against a possible invasion by the Russians. These underground bunkers are filled up with sand and can only be reached via a manhole. By emptying these bunkers a good view can be given of this line of defence. Secondly, volunteers will undertake maintenance activities at country estate the Haere such as clearing the walking paths and painting the buildings.
ACCOMMODATION: The volunteers will stay at a local scouting building. They have to bring their own mattresses and sleeping bags. The group will cook for themselves in the accommodation provided and can make use of the sanitary facilities in the scouting building.
LOCATION: Diepenveen, Overijssel.

For example they can explore the beautiful country estates in the area by bike, go swimming, visit a museum or other places in the Netherlands, such as Deventer, a city nearby. Landschaftspflege in Nord-Friesland

The working area of ‘State Forestry Noord-Fryslan’ offers a various landscape with a rough swamp nature. It is a perfect area to walk through so you can see the various landscapes. There are a lot of little lakes here in the north of Friesland. The partner is the Dutch State Forestry, commissioned by the Dutch government to manage a large part of the nature reserves in the Netherlands. Working towards a sustainable living environment for man, plant and animal is central to their mission. It is a social organization, working for and on behalf of society, cooperating actively with Dutch citizens and the organisations and institutions that represent them.
WORK: The volunteers will work in the area surrounding Twijzel, a small village in Friesland, known for its cultural-historic and blooming blue-grass landscapes and swamp forests. The participants will play an important role in the preservation of the flora and fauna of the area. Together with the state forest rangers participants will do different activities such as cutting, dredging and pilling up the paths.
ACCOMMODATION: In-house sleeping places with beds will be provided. Volunteers should bring their own sleeping bags. The group will cook together for themselves.
LOCATION: Twijzel, Friesland.
Together with your camp leaders you will discuss the recreational program. For example you can explore the area by bike, go swimming, visit a museum or other places in the Netherlands, such as Leeuwarden, a city nearby. Your camp leaders will have some ideas, but of course it is possible for the volunteers to put forward their own ideas for this program! Leisure time will also be spent on the theme: PeaceWorks!

Landschaftspflege zwischen Assen und Groningen

The area ‘Stroomdal Landschap Drentsche Aa’ offers a various landscape of woods, headland and meadows together with old villages. It is a perfect area to walk through so you can see the various landscapes. There is also a lot of water in the north of Drenthe. The location can be reached by bike in approximately 30 minutes from Assen and Groningen. The partner is the Dutch State Forestry, commissioned by the Dutch government to manage a large part of the nature reserves in the Netherlands. Working towards a sustainable living environment for man, plant and animal is central to their mission. It is a social organization, working for and on behalf of society, cooperating actively with Dutch citizens and the organisations and institutions that represent them.
WORK: The participants will do different activities like; cutting, dredging, pilling up the paths and haymaking. The cooperation with the local partner has been taking place since several years and they are always very supportive and explain the importance of the work in great detail.
ACCOMMODATION: Volunteers are expected to bring their own tents. There are minimal sanitary facilities and volunteers should expect primitive accommodation in the middle of the nature. The group will cook for themselves in a barn that is equipped with all cooking facilities.
LOCATION: Oudemolen, Drenthe.
Together with your camp leaders you will discuss the recreational program. For example you can explore the area by bike, go swimming, visit a museum or other places in the Netherlands, such as the city of Groningen. Your camp leaders will have some ideas, but of course it is possible for the volunteers to put forward their own ideas for this program! Leisure time will also be spent on the theme: PeaceWorks! The rangers are very enthusiastic and will take the participants on different trips, such as camp Westerbork (where Anne Frank lived) and a cycle tour through the area during which they will explain the importance of the landscape.

Mitwirkung bei niederländischen Reitmeisterschaften
Niederlande    SIW12-08    THE DUTCH CHAMPIONSHIPS HORSE RIDING    08.09.-22.09.2012    CONS   12vols (no more female)
The royal Dutch Hippipue Sport Federation (KNHS), situated in Ermelo, is with over 180.000 members on of the largest sports federations of the Netherlands. Eight disciplines of the horse riding sport are combined; dressage, jumps, eventing, endurance, drives, tightened sport, voltage and reining. The KNHS looks after the interests of the connected associations and its horse sportsmen, so that they can play the horse riding sport as good as possible. In the Netherlands the KNHS have been dovetailed as a sports federation combined Netherlands Olympic Committee and Dutch Sports Federation.
WORK: The volunteers will renovate the materials which are used during competitions of the Dutch Championships Horse Riding that will also take place during this project. The volunteers will therefore help with the construction of the competitions and they will assist with organizing the event. Finally the volunteers will do some work in the gardens around the location. At the project location, and especially during championships, there will be a lot of beautiful horses present. However, the work does not include working directly with the animals. They are taken care of by their owners.
ACCOMMODATION: Volunteers stay at the KNHS centre in a dormitory in beds provided with mattresses. Sleeping bags should be brought by the volunteers. In a big cafeteria volunteers will eat together with all the employees of the KNHS. However at some (weekend) days you can cook your own meals.
LOCATION: Ermelo.
