Italien LEG 64 Terminillo (Lazio) 01.08.-15.08.2010 ENVI/STUDY 15vols

The Province of Rieti is located in the north-west of Lazio Region, bordered by the ancient river Tiber and by central Apennines. The landscape includes soft hills and vineyards, fertile valleys and beautiful peaks of Mediterranean coasts. The area is characterized by a high level of biodiversity (majestic beech-wood trees, maples, chestnuts and century-old oaks) as well as different species of flowers such as wild orchids, violets and narcissus. There are also some rare species of fauna: wolf, wildcat, golden eagle and goshawk. The project will consist of preserving the natural reserve by several environmental tasks amongst which the creation of an Organic Eco-nursery.
WORK: The volunteers will carry out practical environmental tasks that may include: the creation of an organic eco-nursery in the botanical reserve at the top of the mountain Terminillo, renovating footpaths, creating picnic areas and info points, collaborating in the environmental maintenance of the area of the lake Salto, including the protection of its shores.
LOCATION: The project takes place in two main environmental areas: the Terminillo Mountain, the highest massif peak of the region and the area around the lake Salto where the natural reserve extends across.
ACCOMMODATION: The volunteers will be hosted in a youth hostel provided by Legambiente.

Italien LUN 25 Cantinando (Mompeo) 03.08.-18.08.2010 FEST 16vols

PROJECT: Barile, a village of 3000 inhabitants is placed at the bottom of Monte Vulture, an inactive volcano covered with woodland, which made particularly fertile lands around: oil, chestnuts and wine in particular are the main products of the place. Barile is distinguished by two important features, Albanian origin of the inhabitants who have always experienced the daily exchanges between different cultures and the urban park of "wine cellars" called Cantine, where for centuries is produced an excellent and renowned wine: Aglianico. Here every year in August takes place the important festival Cantinando that combines culture, art, music, theater, juggling, food, the desire to know and share, the fun and of course the wine.
WORK: The project involves environment revaluation (cleaning wine cellars with hoes, shovels and rakes, cleaning of roads of the urban park of wine cellars, arrangement of paths, cleaning of wood) of places of natural interest around Barile (in the chestnut wood of Monte Vulture), in manual activities necessary for Cantinando festival, in pratical help to the management of the festival (preparation popular games and games for children, mounting stand and stages, service in places of comfort during the festival). Volunteers will collaborate closely with the youngsters of the local association. During the free time volunteers will participate to the activities organized by the local association; if it"s possible with the means and times, will organize excursions to the nearby cities (Melfi, Monticchio lakes, Rionero in Vulture) and visits to some local producers of wine.
ACCOMMODATION: on keymats, in the local school. The volunteers will manage a fully equipped kitchen with the help of one of the best cooks of Barile.
TERMINAL: Roma-Bari, then train to Barile.
Italien LUN 31 Clown heart 2, Solarino 11.08.-23.08.2010 ART 10vols

PROJECT: It's 5 years we organize the Clown Heart Tour, in eastern Sicily. Every year clowns coming from the world takes part to the tour visiting hospitals, centers for mental health, houses for orphans... In 2010 we will involve international volunteers! The promoter is “il Muro” association, active on theatre at national and international level. The clown is conceived as a “social actor”, who is able to help people in difficult situations.
WORK: during the first days you will be trained to act and to express your playful soul, than the tour will drive you in the planned places to be visited, preparing the performances and acting as clown, as peace and smile ambassadors.The tour timetable will be very intense, but we will have free time for excursions, concerts and exchange.
ACCOMMODATION: the volunteers will stay in a youth center in Solarino (SR), where they will cook for themselves. The workcamp is organized with AVCS association and supported by the Solarino municipality.Special requirements: motivation letter and smiling photo is needed.

Italien LEG 77 Felitto CsL3 (Campania) 26.08.-10.10.2010 ENVI 12vols

Gole del Calore (Calore canyons) is a small canyon located in a well-known natural and wine area inside the National Park of Cilento and Diano. Felitto is a town situated in the heart of the national Park, between Monte Cervati (2000mt above the sea level) and the Tyrrhenian Sea. The town is not far from Paestum, one of the biggest and most famous archaeological sites in the world. The project is carried out by Legambiente along with local organisations involved in environmental protection and youth policies. The volunteers will get the chance to work in this beautiful green area which stands out from the surrounding urbanised valley.
WORK: The volunteers will be involved in weeding, removing and cutting the brushwood while preserving relevant botanical species; maintaining footpaths 8repainting path marks and information boards, cleaning).
LOCATION: Gole del Calore, Felitto, Salerno district, Campania region.
ACCOMMODATION: The volunteers will be hosted in a guesthouse in the historical centre of Felitto.

Italien IG 9.2 Educating to freedom Waldorf school 31.08.-10.09.2010 RENO/MANU 6vols
PARTNER: The association of the free Waldorf school manages the local school inspired by the principles of Antroposophy (more info at http://www.waldorfanswers.org). The school is a community of teachers and pupils’ families and they all do the necessary works to maintain the school building and garden.
WORK: Volunteers will support the teachers and the parents of the pupils in the manual work needed before the start of the school year: painting the classrooms, the desks and the chairs, clean the garden, arrange the play area for kids, repair desks, etc.
ACCOMODATION AND FOOD: Volunteers will be hosted in the school itself using one classroom as sleeping room. Inflatable or foldable mattresses will be provided. Food will be provided by/in the school (lunches together with the teachers and parents, dinners cooked by the volunteers.) Accommodation is basic. Please note that hot water could not be available for shower.
LOCATION & LEISURE ACTIVITY: The school is in the city centre of Palermo and therefore during the free time volunteers will have the possibility to have turistic tour, go to the seaside, visit the surroundings, join the social and cultural life of the city by night.
REQUIREMENTS: A basic knowledge of Italian is not compulsory but welcome

PROJECT: "Fiume Farfa" is a cooperative farm, besides developing and carrying out its main agricultural activities, Fiume Farfa also aims at creating an opportunity of information with schools and youngsters. Such activity takes place through a direct contact with schools to inform students on the fundamental role of agriculture in the preservation of environmental and cultural wealth and heritage.
WORK: The group of volunteers will undertake the hard work in the fields, in cooperation with the people of the cooperative. The work will consist of: cleaning and making paths in the gorge of Farfa maintenance of the olive groves renovation work of a wooden structure. What to bring: Sleeping bag, winter warm and waterproof clothes, warm hat, winter work boots or trekking boots (absolutely necessary) and work gloves.Accommodation: Volunteers will sleep all together in a building provided with very basic facilities (electricity, hot water, washing-machine, wooden stove). Internet available (1€ per day). Only vegetarian food will be available.

Italien LEG 82 Brivio Campsirago (Lombardia) 13.02.-26.02.2011 ENVI 8vols
The natural reserve Palude di Brivio is located a few kilometres far from the small rural village of Campsirago and it is one of the most interesting environmental areas of the whole park Adda Nord. The natural reserve has been included in the European list of Sites of Community Importance for the preservation and conservation of both fauna and flora. The area is threatened by a wild process of urbanisation that could disrupt the fragile equilibrium of the ecosystem.
WORK: The volunteers will be involved in cleaning footpaths and green areas in order to preserve and protect both the fauna and flora.
LOCATION: The Palude di Brivio is a swamp, rich in biodiversity with many different species of animals and plants. It is a wet-area particularly important for birds migrations.
ACCOMMODATION: The volunteers will be hosted in a guestroom provided with all facilities.
