Frankreich CONC 218 EMMAÜS 02.08.-16.08.2010 SOCI 12vols
Partnership with the Emmaüs community.
Emmaüs, laic impulse of solidarity, was born in 1949 from a mutual aid and help will for all the suffering people, coming from socially privileged persons and from destitute persons. From that date, under the impulse of the Abbé Pierre, the “comrades” work all over the world to help the more destitute persons to rediscover security, dignity and autonomy with work and mutual aid. They collect all kind of equipment (electric domestic appliances, furniture, cloths, etc), they repair and sell it. The profit is used to make live underprivileged people and to go further more in the solidarity. www.emmaus-France.org
PROJECT: In partnership with the GIVE (International Group of the Volunteers Emmaüs), Concordia puts in place its eighth workcamp. Led by Emmaüs comrades, you’ll work with the comrades (recovering, sorting, sale, cooking for a group of 30 persons, etc). You’ll share the life of the comrades as well as the life of other international volunteers.
WORK: Various sorting and cleaning works, etc.
LANGUAGE: French/English
LOCATION: 15 Km south-east of Toulouse in a outer-urban area with possibilities to visit Toulouse but also to go walking in the country side.
ACCOMMODATION: in tents.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The volunteers will work during the same hours (morning and afternoon) and have the same free days (Sunday and Monday) as the comrades.

PROJECT: The small village of Moyvillers is finishing the restoration of the Town Hall and the surrounding area. But a well is still almost in ruins. This well is a system of Wheels and weights and has been covered by a wooden structure. This structure is badly damaged? This first workcamp is organized to start the restoration of the wooden structure over the well. The working site is just between the Town Hall and the Church in the center of the village. The 500 inhabitants are very enthusiastic about the workcamp and international volunteers. Some retired people of the village could help during the workcamp.
WORK: You will put down the roof of the well and strengthen its wooden structure.
LOCATION: Moyvillers is in the central Oise County between Compiègne and Clermont de l’Oise.
ACCOMMODATION: in a public building.
TERMINAL: Train station of Estrée St Denis.

Frankreich CONC 160 PARCÉ SUR SARTHE 04.08.-26.08.2010 RENO 12vols

At the edge of the Sarthe river, the village of Parcé sur Sarthe had been destroyed at the end of the Hundred Year war and were rebuilt with stones from the former fortifications; therefore the old walls are Parcé's history keepers. The centre of the village is composed of many narrow lanes decked out with flowers along which you can see old buildings as well as the Saint-Pierre tower, the salt cellar, many water wells and crosses. Just outside the village, there is the site of “Les Tourettes”: a long time ago, ladies used to watch from these towers their husbands who were hunting in the valley.
LOCATION: In the south-west of Sarthe, between Angers and Le Mans about 45 km away from each town. About 10 km away from Sablé, Parcé is a small lively town, where many traditional festivities take place in August.
WORK: You will work on the restoration of “Les Tourettes”, by renovating a wall in a traditional way.
ACCOMMODATION: You will be accommodated in tents on the camp-site on the edge of the river with view on the old water mill; cooking and eating under a big tent outside. Please bring a tent and a sleeping mat, if available.
TERMINAL: at Sablé-sur-Sarthe train station.

Restoration of a medieval tower - Binational workcamp France and Germany!
PROJECT: Allègre is a town with an important middle age heritage. Situated at an altitude of 900 meters, the vestiges of the castle, listed as a Historical Monument, dominate the village.
This second international workcamp with the municipality will allow volunteers to work directly on the vestiges of the castle. Furthermore, young people from Allègre will meet you during leisure time or activity times.
WORK: You will work on the restoration of the north tower of the castle which undergoes regular erosion. Today it serves as point of view. A viewpoint indicator is settled there. First you will remove the vegetation then you will use techniques of traditional masonry to secure the height of the tower by raising the most damaged parts (work on scaffold) and will reorganize a path to block the access.
LOCATION: Allègre (2000 inhabitants) is located in the Haute-Loire department in Auvergne region. It is 30 km north from Le-Puy-en-Velay. It is a village of the Pnr Livradois-Forez, with remarkable natural and built heritage.
ACCOMMODATION: At the municipal campsite. Two places tents (bring your sleeping mat) and collective tent for group life.
TERMINAL: Darsac train station. Airport : Paris or Clermont-Ferrand
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Nights can be really cold, so please bring warm clothes and a sleeping bag. Please bring gloves, work cloth and shoes.

Frankreich CONC 041 ARTHEZ-DE-BEARN 06.08.-28.08.2010 RENO 14vols

It's due to its topographical location and its geological features, that Arthez-de-Béarn benefits of multiple natural sources, which were quickly exploited and enhanced since the Middle Ages. People used them until the 1950s when they haven’t had tap water yet. Today the fountain called Cagots is covered by sand and forgotten. This fountain is the oldest one, listed for its historical value. The cistern of the source is still mostly out of the original double basin, and the wash basins (most recent and previously covered by a beautiful work of traditional framing) are buried. Only a washboard is still emerging from the ground.
LOCATION: Arthez-de-Béarn is located in the heart of Béarn in the department Pyrénées-Atlantiques (64), an hour and a half to the Atlantic Ocean and the mountains of the Pyrenees.
WORK: Led by a technical leader, you will participate in the cleaning and the restoration of the fountain Cagots. This fountain is located on a steep hiking path about ½ hour walk from the campsite where you will be accommodated. At the end of the workcamp the fountain will be cleared and restored and therefore will serve again as the public life and hikers, school-children and inhabitants will enjoy it, thanks to your work.

TERMINAL: At the Orthez train-station (SNCF) in the Pyrenees-Atlantiques (64).

PROJECT : « Les fougères » is a popular neighborhood located in the 20th borough in the east of Paris.
In partnership with « Paris habitat », provider of social housing, the project consists of the construction of a shared garden situated in the heart of the neighborhood.
During the stay, with local associations, you will participate to the establishment of many actions to involve neighborhood youth in local development actions and awareness of international mobility !
WORK : Accompanied by a landscape gardener you will develop collective arable plots, wooden planters for children and a compost area.

PROJECT: The little village of Gere Belesten will surprise the volunteers for its nature and its incredible view on the Pyrenees mountains.
WORK: restoration of a footpath and of the Peyrelade cross, which are historical heritage of the municipality. Masonry work and painting.

The partnership with the village of Vanxains is always very interesting for the restoration of the small local heritage site. The very enriching exchanges between international volunteers and the local population and the warm welcome is assured. Two camps will be organized again this year, in order to continue the restoration of the wall surrounding the park which belongs to the village and is used for cultural events during the summer.
LOCATION : Vanxains (700 inhabitants) 40km from Périgueux. Vainxains is a picturesque village which has retained its rural charm.
WORK: Led by a technical leader from Concordia, you will take part in the restoration of both faces of a stone wall surrounding the parkland. Reconstruction, cleaning, renovation of the wall’s parts that has broken down. Traditional masonry.
LANGUAGE: French and English.
ACCOMMODATION: In a building. Basic collective living condition. Bring a sleeping bag, working clothes, sport shoes and warm clothes.

PROJECT: The suburban Park of Miribel-Jonage leads an animation and preservation program in order to enhance the value of its natural environment. The park organizes events for the urban community of Lyon. Concordia is in contact with the Park of Miribel-Jonage since 4 years. This year, you will create a naturalistic path and a bird’s observatory. At the end, volunteers will get involved in the organization of the “Woodstower” Festival. If you like contacts with people and nature, this camp is for you!!!
WORK: Supervised by professional workers of nature, you will clear the brushwood and cut some small trees in order to create the naturalistic path. You will mark the ground fixing some wooden sticks on the place where there are important interests about fauna, flora, and birds’ migration. Finally, you will integrate the volunteer’s team of the musical festival “Woodstower” which hosts each year around 10 000 festival goers.

LOCATION: The Park of Miribel-Jonage is situated in the northeast of Lyon agglomeration.

THE PROJECT: In the heart of the Ardeche region, volunteers are expected to restore a roman cobblestone path and an old stone wall.
WORK: You will renovate a roman cobblestone path, clean and open a spring water and rebuild an old dry stone wall. The work may be physical but in a beautiful landscape!
ACCOMMODATION: Accommodation in bungalows for 6 persons maximum in council camping.
LOCATION: Montpezat village ( 780 inhabitants)is surrounded by a beautiful fauna and flora in a volcanic area. Castle visits, swimming in rivers, hiking and visit on a beautiful landscape and medium mountains will be proposed. Don't forget your hiking shoes !

PROJECT: Located oceanfront, in beautiful surroundings, the place is characterized by a very rich biodiversity and it is threatened by the fast and heavy proliferation of the baccharis plant. The project is set up in partnership with the inhabitants of Locmariaquer and consists in the eradication of the baccharis.
WORK: the activities will consist in:
- tracking down the baccharis plant all along the dunes, at the edge of the marshes, in precious and fragile places.
- To pull it up and remove the wrecks.
LOCATION: Campénéac is a rural secluded little town in the gulf of Morbihan, one of the most beautiful area in Brittany with a large diversity of sites (dunes, ponds, oceanfront, etc.).

For the third year, Bonnelles village and the locals invite you to help them out for the conservation of the Natural reserve. The area has significant cultural and natural heritage and is situated at the heart of the Natural Park of the Chevreuse valley. Locals are fond of their place and looking forward to organise meals, parties and friendly evenings with your group.
WORK: You will reopen a footpath in the Natural reserve: clearing out the vegetation, excavation and packing down. The work conditions will be nice, as the area is lovely, in the middle of nature.
ACCOMMODATION: In tents. More infos: Bonnelles counts about 2000 inhabitants. It is situated about 15km away from Rambouillet (26000 inhabitants) and an hour away from Paris. We will go out to Paris only once during the stay; so we advise you to plan a few days of tourism before or after the workcamp to visit the capital.

The project aims to promote rural lifestyle and to sensitize people to environmental issues. The farm wants to provide environmental education for all: spread local information, create a meeting point, and organize gathering events about organic farming, healthy nutrition and renewable energy. The farm La Bouzigue regularly hosts children groups on those topics.
WORK: Nature awareness in a preserved area: Perfect conditions to observe, feel, listen and taste the pleasure of countryside. The association organizes workshops on various topics including farm’s lifestyle, forest, ecosystems and ecology. Besides this you will help on the organization of an open day. You will also help on the ecological construction of a sustainable house.
ACCOMMODATION: You will sleep in tents on the site. More infos: The educational farm La Bouzigue is located in the village of Montaigut sur Save 20km North East from Toulouse. This village of 1500 inhabitants is full of heritage from Stone Age, Gallic and Middle Age periods. It is a famous place of pilgrimage. The farm occupies 373 ha which equals 1/3 of the village. PROJECT: The small village of Verdelais was once famous for its pilgrimage chapel and its monastery… it recently inherited a “way of Cross” from the top of which a splendid view of the valley of the Garonne can be admired. For National Heritage Day, which will take place during the camp on the 18 & 19 of September, the town hall wished to renovate this pathway, and to thus promote this inheritance for which, during a weekend, you will play the guides and the organizers…
WORK: Led by a technical leader, you will participate in the restoration of the way of cross: repairing the old evacuations of water (cleaning and repositioning small stones); sanding and painting the bars of each small chapel, concealment of certain bars. You will as well participate in the setting and the leading of the visits during National Heritage Day.

LOCATION: Verdelais is a small village in the Gironde, located a few kilometres from Langon, and 35 km south-east of Bordeaux.

PROJECT: It is a partnership between two associations : Respect and Concordia . Respect is an association of eco-citizenship and a network of social mutual aid, The objective is the fight against an invasive plant that asphyxiates environment and prevents others plants from living, and it endangers ecosystem of pond.
WORK: Weeding an aquatic plant with an environmentally conscious method in order to respect the environment (manual weeding). You will work with fisherman and volunteers who are involved in the project.
LOCATION: The site takes place in the pond of Provostière, near a rural district of Riallé (44). Agricultural landscape, forest, ponds and lakes: we'll see !
ACCOMMODATIONS: The accommodation will be in cottages.

Restoration of hydraulic network and training!
PROJECT: This is a new project, a partnership between Concordia, the town of Lattes and an organisation which set up training in relation with natural and environmental space. The purpose is to organise a work camp with volunteers but also people in in-training service and youth from the town. The work will be in the conservation area called “Maison de la Nature” which is on the side of a pond and will be the restoration of the hydraulic equipment and some other arranging works. The volunteers will have the possibility, if they want to, to follow, during afternoon, some technical training courses (masonry, work on the wood…)

OFAJ France, Germany and Cameroun
PROJECT: All year long, the association «Un Lieu pour l'Utopie» (A Place for Utopia) receives disadvantaged people (lone women, handicapped, solidarity-based camping...) in its farm. The work will consist of the renovation of an emergency accommodation for lone women in traditional stone and carpentry work. The association members will share with their humanistic values as well as the meals prepared with the farm products. You'll be accommodated in tents in the farm's camping collective rooms in the farm's main house. As the farm team is able to communicate in sign language, this workcamp is ideal for deaf-mute volunteers. The panorama from the farm is exceptional, with an incredible view on the Pyrénées mountains, and the area can provide you with so many opportunities to discover natural sites such as “la Montagne Noire” (the Black Mountain area), Saint-Ferréol's lake, the Canal du Midi, and beautiful towns such as Carcassonne or Revel.
This project takes place within the frame of an OFAJ partnership with participants from France, Germany and Cameroon.
Note: The permanent stuff speaks German and is very interested in African art. This workcamp is also open for deaf and mute persons, as the local volunteers have command of sign language. The international volunteers participate also in the farm work.

French Speaking Camp
PROJECT: Several local organisations of Clermont-Ferrand decided to group together to organize an international Capoiera festival. Masters, practising and Capoeira lovers will be hosted in Clermont-Ferrand and its area. A sporty and international atmosphere is waiting for you.
WORK: You will participate in the festival advertising video shooting: filming, montage...and sharing your film at the last evening show. You may also give some help during the festival.
ACCOMMODATION: You will be hosted in the building of a local organisation, a few kilometres away from Clermont-Ferrand, you will share the space with other people but a special area will be dedicated to your group. A minibus will help you to travel.
LOCATION: The festival is local so you will follow the sports events, but the most of them is located in Clermont-Ferrand.
