| Workcamps in Ecuador werden von der Fundación Chiriboga organisiert, mit der IBG bis 2002 gemeinsam Projekte in Ecuador aufgebaut hat. Inzwischen steht die Fundación auf eigenen Beinen und organisiert ihre Camps selbstständig. Für Workcamps in Lateinamerika entstehen vor Ort zusätzliche Kosten (extra-fees), die sowohl für Unterkunft und Verpflegung verwendet werden, als auch das lokale Projekt finanziell unterstützen. | |
Für alle Camps in Lateinamerika ist eine gehörige Portion Flexibilität erforderlich. Offenheit gegenüber fremden Kulturen sowie die Fähigkeit, sich Rhythmus und Lebensstil anpassen zu können, gehören ebenfalls dazu. Nicht immer wird vor Ort alles so laufen, wie es vorher auf dem Papier stand - aber auch das ist Teil einer interkulturellen Erfahrung. The Chiriboga project is located 50km southwest of Quito, at Chiriboga town. Reforestation and other forms of ecological work are the activities in the project. The placement is only carried out in groups and requires a minimum of 6 and up to 12 volunteers. The Foundation Proyecto Ecológico Chiriboga started its work in a place located 50 kms. in the southwest of Quito, in the Chiriboga region, here the Foundation protects a Reserve where they make Reforestation work and Protection of the nature.
Nowadays the Foundation works in other places of Ecuador in the sensibility of the protection of the environment in schools. We usually receive groups in July, August, and September. Due to the hard nature of work in the mountains, we combine two types of volunteering activities; one week in Chiriboga and three weeks in a community of the coast, teaching Basic English, Computers lessons and Environmental practices at the schools.
WORK: In the workcamps of July and August- September, the volunteers will help one week in the Proyecto Chiriboga Reserve located 50.5 kilometers south west of Quito, the capital city, making Reforestation work and other necessary tasks in the Reserve.
The second part of the workcamp, the volunteers will travel to the Coast, to teach Basic English lessons in schools of the Canton Jipijapa in the province of Manabí.
Study part: In the meeting day, the President of the Foundation makes a small Introduction Seminar about the activities and localization of the Proyecto Chiriboga also about the community where the volunteers will assist in the second part of the workcamp. The next day the group travel to the Proyecto Chiriboga, as soon as they get there, they have lodging, know the place, food schedule, and work itinerary.
The activities organized for the summer workcamps on July and August – September in the Proyecto Chiriboga will be: the inventory of flora and to label the forestall volume in the Proyecto Chiriboga Reserve; the volunteers will be divided into groups to make this activities in conjunction with the help of a Forestall Technician. The volunteers need to bring a compass calibrated for Ecuador. We also will continue with the construction of the “Salon Multiple” a big house where in the future we will give Environmental classes and information to the students and volunteers. At the end of the first week the group comes back to Quito and then they travel to the Coast to assist in country schools from Jipijapa, they teach Basic English classes, depending on the volunteer’s skills with the Spanish language, they can give some conversation about Environment Protection. In this second part work is from Monday to Friday, weekends are free to travel around,to go to the beach, to visit the La Plata Island “the Galapagos Island for poor people” to see the whales, we can give assistance to plan activities for weekends if the volunteers need it.
ACCOMMODATION: Accommodation and food in Quito and in the Proyecto Chiriboga is provided at the “houses” of the Foundation Proyecto Ecológico Chiriboga, sharing rooms and toilettes with other volunteers during the first part of the placement, keeping the group together. During the second part of the placement, accommodation and food is provided with middle class families from the communities or at the teacher’s house.
If you need to arrive some days before or to stay some days after the placement, the Foundation can offer lodging for USA$ 10, 50 per day, this include; a place to sleep, breakfast and dinner.
If you need to take Spanish classes you can take with our teachers for low price.These dates were selected because we need the volunteers arrive on Sunday in order to travel or to start on the Monday. The volunteers can arrive in the whole Sunday; at night 19:00pm we have a reunion to introduce everybody, to explain the activities, the details and the rules of the workcamp.
