Their stay in the centre is temporary and lasts until a decision is taken regarding a possible refugee status. This center is specialized in hosting families (300 residents) and teenagers who arrived in Belgium without their parents (+/-20 residents). As teenagers, they have a special status and are protected by the Children's Rights Declaration until their majority. The centre provides such services as accommodation, food, educational courses, medical and social help, cultural, sport events etc. Website (available in English): http://www.fedasil.be
WORK: This project is based on a dynamic meeting between the teenagers volunteers and residents of the asylum seeker centre. We will not confirm any placement request before the analysis of these documents.

AGE: 16-25
PROJECT: Mannebach is a small village with 350 inhabitants not far from Trier. In Mannebach you can find a local brewery, a cheese dairy and a pottery, but the community is without public transport, school or kindergarten and without shopping facilities. That’s why the local mayor and his commune started various projects to improve the life and to ensure the future of the village. A group of 25 volunteers from France, Germany, Greece, Serbia and Poland, all from remote or rural areas, will come to Mannebach to discuss different realities on the countryside throughout Europe. The youth exchange will consist of a study part and a volunteering part, in which you will support Mannebach!
STUDY: Usually, young people from the countryside have fewer opportunities to join activities, travel in Europe or even gain IT and social media skills due to commonly bad internet connections. Therefore, this youth exchange wants to broaden your view, let you get familiar with different cultures and traditions and show you, how easy and cheap it can be to travel in Europe and meet new people! Besides, the internet and social media are great tools to learn, stay in contact and discover the world – if you know how to use it (and what to avoid).
In short, the study part will consist of these two main topics:
1) Intercultural learning and possibilities on how to discover Europe
2) IT and Social Media Competences
WORK: You will create a cottage garden with traditional flowers, herbs, vegetables and fruit. The garden will be used for educational projects with children, but also as a community garden where everybody is welcome to do some gardening. The work will be supervised by a local volunteer and you will use old materials and plants to create the garden.
ACCOMMODATION: You will be accommodated in tipis and tents on the leisure facility of the village which is 1km outside of Mannebach. What used to be a sportsground is now a comping area for youth groups and is equipped with toilets, showers, a kitchen, a barbecue hut and a wooden hut that can be used as living room. The living standard is basic but you can enjoy the evenings in the nature with campfires, different outdoor playing tools and there is a soccer pitch with floodlight. Also you can use the community hall in the village centre for group activities.
LOCATION: Mannebach is a small village 7 km from Saarburg, where you have all the shopping facilities you need, a train station, a public swimming pool and several touristic sights. On your days off you can go and visit Trier, the oldest city in Germany, which is 30 km away from Mannebach or explore the landscape which is dominated by hills, fruit orchards and forests. The area is famous for hiking and other outdoor activities.
NEXT AIRPORT: Frankfurt Hahn, Luxemburg
NEXT TRAIN STATION: Saarburg, Trier
REMARKS: IBG will host a special preparatory session that includes an intercultural and task-related preparation workshop.

PROJECT: Villa Olanda is an old mansion house which is located in Luserna S.Giovanni a small village in the Val Pellice near Pinerolo (Turin). The villa has a long history, from the residence of the 1800 local lords, then has been a hotel since the beginning of '900, a shelter for the Russians during the revolution during and after World War II and finally had different destinies and uses of little success that they left to decay for several decades. Villa Olanda is a large building with a large park and a potential which has remained untapped for a long time, a wealth denied to local communities. The Synodal Commission for the diaconate (or Diakonia Valdese) is working to return this building to the territory, making it a meeting place. Right now the building has different realities: a local radio station, Radio Beckwith, a hosting service for refugees and asylum seekers, and a service for young people of the territory. This last one creates opportunities for groups of young people (boys and girls) of the area, in particular by proposing international programs that may give a chance to the inhabitants of rural areas to be able to get in touch with diversity.
WORK: Volunteers will be involved in activities that will give them a chance to interact and build a close-knit team. They will also give them the opportunity to express themselves and develop their sense of initiative. The proposed work goes in two directions: to maintain and at the same time beautify the structure to make it more welcoming for the local community. The proposed works are of a creative type and maintenance: - Cleaning and rearrangement of stone walls that are found in the park of Villa Olanda and surrounding it (reconstruction of damaged parts of the wall, cleaning of weeds). - Maintenance of the park (gardening, cleaning leaves, readjustment abandoned areas, plants repositioning).- Development and provision of one or more beautification murals on the walls of the structure, internal and
external. - Silk screen T-shirts and pins with production organization logos and / or activities offered by the organization.
The four groups will each be coordinated by dedicated people who deal with these activities during the year at the Diakonia Valdese. Furthermore an operator of Diakonia Valdese will be present for all 10 days to supervise the group of minors, accompanied by a seated operator provided by the IBO.
ACCOMMODATION AND LEISURE: Volunteers will stay in the same structure that has a floor used as hostels. The structure can accommodate 20 persons in rooms for 3/4 people, with private bathroom. Volunteers will have a kitchen and shifts will be organized to prepare lunch, dinner and breakfast. We will also organise the cleaning shifts. Diakonia Valdese will supply the kitchen constantly devoting an operator specifically for this purpose, so as to meet the needs of the group. The property has wi-fi and space for recreation with table football and table tennis and a football field / volleyball. Operators who will accompany the group for all 10 days will propose activities to the teenagers during free time (games, watching movies, musical evenings, etc ..). You can organize walks and outdoor activities during free days.
MEETING POINT: Villa Olanda is reachable by train from Turin to Turin Porta Susa and then to Pinerolo. Volunteers will be picked up in Torino Porta Susa railway station, July 9 at 16:30 / 17:00 or Pinerolo station, July 9 at 17:30 / 18:00.
