Selina loves traveling and meeting new people and is currently combining these two things in international Workcamps. In the summer of 2018, she traveled to Mexico to support a turtle conservation project on the Pacific coast. Here she describes for you what experiences she had there and why the protection of sea turtles should be important to everyone.

For the Mexican Workcamps there is often an extra fee on site, which is used for accommodation and food as well as to support the local project.

Travel tips for Mexico

As a German citizen you do not need a visa to enter Mexico if you stay less than 180 days. You will need a passport that is valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay and a return ticket. Before planning your trip, find out about necessary vaccinations and allow enough time for them!

Travel experience in Latin America is an advantage if you want to join a camp in Mexico.

Basic knowledge of Spanish is a prerequisite for participation in most projects.

In addition to Spanish, which is the official language, Mexico has legally recognized 62 indigenous languages as “national languages” (lenguas nacionales) since 2003. 16 indigenous languages even have more than 100,000 speakers - more than in any other country in the Americas. The most commonly spoken languages are Nahuatl and Mayathan.
